Brendon Small (born Feb. 15, 1975 in Springfield, Illinois) is a stand-up comedian and co-creator, writer, star, and music writer for UPN's and later Cartoon Network's Home Movies which has now completed production. Small graduated from the Berklee College of Music, where he began his love affair with speed guitar.
In Home Movies, he portrayed the lead character, an 8-year-old aspiring filmmaker, also named Brendon Small, and a number of other, more minor characters. Early episodes of the show featured squigglevision, a style made famous by the cartoon Dr. Katz, Professional Therapist, produced by Soup2Nuts, the same company that produced Home Movies.
In April 2005 the Sci Fi Channel announced Small's latest show, Barbarian Chronicles, a half-hour animated ensemble comedy. It will be produced by Small and Worldwide Pants Incorporated. Small is also working on the Adult Swim series Metalocalypse, which premiered August 6, 2006. He is also doing several voices in Season 2 of The Venture Bros.
Small posed for a pictorial that appeared in the (cover-dated) April 2006 issue of Playgirl magazine, as part of a humor-themed issue. AdultSwim.com (the official website of Cartoon Network programming block Adult Swim, on which Home Movies airs) reported on March 7, 2006, that Small posed wearing "nothing but a Viking helmet"; the Playgirl website further described a "strategically placed Viking helmet", indicating that Small's genitals were not exposed in the pictorial.
Brendon Small currently resides in Los Angeles, California with his dog, Ernie.
Steve's Comedy Central Presents Half Hour Special premiered in 2006 and was voted the seventeenth most popular Comedy Central Presents by fans as part of the Standup Showdown on comedycentral.com. He also was the winner of the MySpace Standup Or Sitdown competition on TBS. He has had small parts in several films: The Goods: Live Hard, Sell Hard, starring Jeremy Piven and was produced by Will Ferrell; Four Christmases, starring Vince Vaughn and Reese Witherspoon; and Couples Retreat, starring Vince Vaughn and Jon Favreau. On July 16, he appeared on Conan. He has become a regular on "The Tonight Show" with Jay Leno recently and has done it 9 times. He's filming his third hour special Feb. 8th in New York City in 2014.
Byrne created with Rob Long and is starring in the comedy Sullivan & Son on TBS that premiered in the summer of 2012. After a very successful summer run with Season One, TBS gave the go ahead for a second season that aired in summer of 2013. The show proved to be a hit with an average of 2.4 million viewers per episode and is being brought back for a third season with 13 episodes slated for summer of 2014. Byrne will once again hit the road with the other comedians and co-stars of the show Owen Benjamin, Ahmed Ahmed and Roy Wood Jr. in support of Sullivan & Son that same summer.
